Safaricom has launched an 8 weeks campaign to reward business owners on its Lipa Na M-PESA and Pochi La Biashara services, the company said on Monday.

“The promotion comes on the back of increasing adoption of M-PESA services by businesses across the country,” it said.

How to participate in the promotion

As part of the promotion, all businesses on Pochi La Biashara and Lipa Na M-PESA Business Till will earn 1 point for every transaction of KSh. 50 and above that they receive or payout for the next 8 weeks.

The points will qualify business owners for weekly draws, they could win one of 128 tuk-tuks, monthly draws, they could win one of 16 Isuzu DMAX pickups or the grand draw where they stand to win one of 8 Fuso Canters.

This promotion will run across 8 regions including Nairobi, Coast, North Eastern, Eastern, Rift, Western, Nyanza and Mt. Kenya. 

Each of the regions will award 2 tuk-tuks every week, 1 pickup every 4 weeks and 1 truck at the grand finale.

All business owners on Pochi La Biashara can redeem their points in exchange for cash at KSh 1 per point. All business owners will also be rewarded with up to 6 minutes of talk time per day for the first three qualifying transactions.

Lipa Na M-Pesa

Lipa Na M-Pesa is a Business Payments service, to allow direct transactions from Mpesa business tills. It allows Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to send money and make payments from their business tills directly.  The Lipa Na M-PESA product was launched in June 2013.

Pochi La Biashara

Pochi La Biashara is a payment platform that enables businesses owners to separate business and personal funds on M-Pesa.

It allows business owners who do not have a Lipa na M-Pesa line to receive money from customers into a separate wallet.

During the HY 2021/2022 Earnings Presentation, Safaricom said its digital channels have empowered the micro and SMEs who are the backbone of the economy.

“Beyond payments, we are enabling micro and small businesses with products such as bill manager that provides end-to-end solutions like digital invoicing easing their business operations.

During this period we managed a Kshs 2.3 Billion OPEC savings, thanks to initiatives such as smart procurement and planning helping the business to be more efficient while delivering more value to our customers,” Peter Ndegwa, CEO Safaricom said.
