Safaricom Woos Customers With Double Talk-Time Offer

CBK Explains Why it Will Not Cap Interest Rates Charged by Digital Lenders

Safaricom (NSE: SCOM) customers are set to enjoy double talk-time to all networks over the next three months. The offer will be available to all 30 million customers through the Tunukiwa Service by dialing *444*0# after which they can purchase an offer to double their airtime.

Customers will have a choice in selecting the validity period of the airtime between 24 hours, 3 days, 7 days and 30 days based on their needs. The airtime will be applicable for calls across all networks, SMS and data consumed out of bundles. To view their balance, customers can dial *444# and select Balance.

“Through the years, we have seen a growth in our customer needs to encompass different ways of communicating such as chatting and social media. Even with this shift, calling remains the most preferred way of getting in touch, and we see an opportunity to encourage our customers to talk even more through incredible offers such as Kredo Dabo Dabo,” said Sylvia Mulinge, Chief Customer Officer, Safaricom.

The Tunukiwa Service enables Safaricom to customize an offer based on each customer’s needs.

The Kredo Dabo Dabo airtime will not be applicable for purchase of data bundles and premium services such as Skiza.

Data from the Communications Authority of Kenya shows that the minutes of use per month per customer on mobile phone increased by 12.8 minutes between September 2017 and September 2018, from 90.1 minutes to 102.9 minutes; before easing to 99.2 minutes per month by December 2018.
