Lufthansa, Germany’s largest airline plans to commence direct flights from Frankfurt to Mombasa and on to Zanzibar from 31st March 2021.  The airline’s subsidiary, Eurowings will fly the route twice a week, operating an Airbus A330 with a capacity of 283 passengers.   “The new route will provide leisure passengers an exciting travel experience and offers numerous connections at the Frankfurt hub,” said the airline’s general manager for Southern and East Africa region Andre Schulz in a notice to customers. Airtel Africa has signed a network modernization deal with Ericsson to enable 4G coverage in Kenya. Airtel Africa will use Ericsson’s Radio Access Network (RAN) and packet core products for 4G to ensure enhanced quality of voice and data for Airtel subscribers. The network modernization deal, signed in August 2020, is in line with the Kenyan Digital Economy Blueprint Vision 2030 which aims to provide robust connectivity in rural areas and facilitate e-commerce platforms. The United Nations’ World Food Programme won the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize for its efforts to combat hunger. And for its contribution to bettering conditions for peace in conflict-affected areas and for acting as a driving force in efforts to prevent the use of hunger as a weapon of war and conflict. The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) will start conducting alcoblow tests in all major towns in Kenya from Friday after 60 people were killed due to drunk driving between October 2-4.
