Britam has appointed Mrs. Celestine Munda as Interim Chairperson of its Board with immediate effect, following the passing of Board Chairman Mr. Kuria Muchiru on 19 March 2026.
The decision was made at a duly convened Board meeting on Monday, 30 March 2026, and is subject to regulatory approval.
Munda, who has served as an Independent Non-Executive Director at Britam and as Chairperson of the group’s Board Audit, Risk and Compliance Committee, will hold the interim role until the Board communicates a substantive appointment in due course.
The Board expressed confidence that she will provide steady leadership and clear strategic direction to the company and its management during the transition.
A Career Built on Governance, Risk and Leadership
Munda brings over 30 years of experience spanning Big 4 professional services, the oil and gas industry, and senior Pan-African advisory roles, a profile that makes her particularly well-suited to lead Britam through this period of transition.
She began her career in accounting and auditing at a Big 4 firm before moving into the oil and gas sector, where she held finance, procurement, operations and project auditing roles across upstream, chemicals and retail segments. She later returned to Big 4 advisory services, where she spent 17 years working across the public and private sectors in Africa on assignments covering internal auditing, business risk consulting, corporate governance, strategy and operations, and organisational reviews.
At the peak of her advisory career, Munda held several senior leadership positions, including Africa Risk Advisory Services Leader, East and Central Africa Advisory Services Leader, Global Advisory Council Member, and EMEIA Risk Advisory Services Executive Africa Representative. She also served as Consumer Products Leader for Advisory Services.
Beyond the corporate world, she has contributed to the broader governance and audit profession as a former Vice President of the Institute of Internal Auditors South Africa and former Chairperson of the Advisory Board of the Internal Audit Endorsed Programme at the University of Pretoria.
