Kenya’s leading telco, Safaricom, has launched M-PESA Go, a financial product targeting teens and preteens aged between 10 to 17 years.
M-PESA Go will allow subscribers to send and receive money, purchase airtime and bundles, use Lipa na M-PESA services, and access M-PESA Super App dubbed ‘M-PESA Go App.’
“As M-PESA we are committed to empowering and transforming the lives of everyone, and in M-PESA Go, we are providing a revolutionary product designed for youngsters, but with oversight by parents or guardians,” Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa said.
“The service seeks to empower parents and guardians to raise a financially healthy generation who are prepared for a cashless world,” he said.
M-PESA Go is not just a wallet. We will also roll out various initiatives that empower children with opportunities and skills beyond Financial literacy as we continue to enable Kenyans to enjoy a digital lifestyle. #MPESAGo #ItsGoTime pic.twitter.com/TmCw3cy7Gn

Ndegwa said the current generation had been born into technology, the internet and a cashless world, seeking inclusion and independence in this digital world.
“Parents and guardians need the tools to guide and protect them,” he said.
