TECNO has picked up two Global Product Technology Innovation Awards at IFA 2026 in Berlin, honouring a modular smartphone concept and a compact gaming PC built with Tonino Lamborghini.
For Kenyan buyers who know the brand mainly through the Camon, Spark and POVA phones sold through local dealers, the wins mark TECNO’s push into more experimental hardware.
The TECNO Modular Phone took the Ultra Slim Magnetic Modular Technology Innovation Gold Award. The Tonino Lamborghini TECNO TAURUS, also called the MEGA MINI G1 Pro, won the Miniaturised Gaming PC Technology Innovation Gold Award. IDG, IFA and DIHK established the awards in 2014 to recognise products that set new benchmarks in consumer electronics.
A Phone Built Around Magnetic Modules
At 4.9mm thick, TECNO calls the Modular Phone the thinnest modular smartphone in the world. The device relies on what TECNO calls Modular Magnetic Interconnection Technology, a system that pairs a magnetic array with pogo pin connectors so ten different hardware modules can snap onto the handset. The phone’s own battery holds between 3000 and 4000mAh, while each module carries its own power supply rather than draining the host battery.
The body has no ports at all and carries an IP rating for dust and water resistance. TECNO says the phone is heading toward mass production, a claim worth watching given that similar modular phone concepts, including Google’s Project Ara a decade ago, never reached retail shelves in meaningful numbers.
TECNO has entered the phone in competitions before. The design has already collected more than 20 awards from outlets including CNET, Android Authority, Yanko Design and The Verge, with CNET and Yanko Design naming it among the best products at MWC 2026 earlier this year.
A Lamborghini Branded PC That Fits on a Desk
The Tonino Lamborghini TECNO TAURUS packs full gaming hardware into a case of roughly 6.36 litres, small enough to sit beside a monitor rather than under a desk. Its vertical chassis has a transparent panel on one side, a nod to Lamborghini’s design language rather than TECNO’s usual smartphone aesthetic.
Inside sits an Intel Core i9 13900HK processor paired with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 graphics card rated at 614 AI TOPS and a 145W power draw, with DLSS 4 support for upscaled gaming performance. A water cooling system keeps the machine running at full speed under sustained load, and 15 ports, including OCuLink and USB4, along with WiFi 6E, cover most connectivity needs for a small form factor build.

What This Means For Kenya
Neither product is confirmed for the Kenyan market yet, and TECNO’s press materials do not mention regional launch plans. Kenyan buyers currently access TECNO devices through authorised phone dealers stocking the Camon, Spark and POVA ranges, and there is no indication that the Modular Phone or the TAURUS mini PC will join that lineup soon.
TECNO also showed two devices at IFA that remain firmly in concept territory: a bezel less phone with a 0mm screen edge, and the MEGABOOK T15 360 Pro convertible laptop. Neither is headed for stores. TECNO has a track record of filtering flagship ideas down into its mainstream Camon and Spark phones within a year or two, so features shown at IFA sometimes surface later in devices Kenyan consumers actually buy.
TECNO operates in more than 70 markets across five continents under Transsion Holdings, the same parent company behind Infinix and itel, brands that together hold a large share of Kenya’s smartphone market. Any technology that TECNO eventually brings down from its concept devices into the Camon or Spark ranges would reach Kenyan shelves through that same distribution network.
