Kenyans can sign up for the new Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) starting July 1, 2024.

Self-Registration Options

The Ministry of Health also says Community Health Promoters will help those facing difficulties.

“This registration process is free of charge,” said the ministry.

Existing National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) contributions and benefits will remain in place until the full rollout of SHIF.

“All facilities are urged to continue providing services, with all claims to be verified and settled as usual,” Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha said Friday on the progress towards SHIF.

SHIF Contribution Rates

  • Salaried Kenyans will part with 2.75% of their salary.
  • Self-Employed Kenyans: 2.75% of income.
  • Unemployed Kenyans (over 25) will contribute Ksh 300 monthly.
