The National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) has announced that all Kenyans and employers will now be required to make their payments through the official government Paybill number 222222.

The changes were communicated via a statement signed by Chief Executive Elijah Wachira and will take effect immediately.

“This is in line with the Kenya Gazette No. 16008 of 2022 and the Presidential Directive designating the use of paybill Number 222222 as the Government’s single payment platform,” the statement read in part.

To make monthly contributions, NHIF members are advised to use NHIFM-ID NUMBER as their account number. Members making penalty payments should substitute the NHIFM with the NHIFP and then add their ID number.

Employers contributing for their employees will henceforth use NHIFE-ESlip NUMBER as the account number for monthly contributions and NHIFEP-EMPLOYER CODE for employer penalties.

To access NHIF services, users can visit www.selfcare-ecitizen.nhif.or.ke/ or www.nhif.or.ke or the NHIF Mobile App, available on the App Store or Play Store.

President William Ruto stated in June that all government agencies would use one payment channel to ensure efficiency. He also stated that a single paybill would reduce corruption in government offices as it would limit physical interactions.
