Food delivery service Bolt Food has expanded its operations to Mombasa, allowing locals to order food from restaurants.

Mombasa becomes the second city for Bolt to expand after Nairobi in 2021.

The services will be available to residents of Ziwani, Tudor, Makupa, Tononoka, Kibokoni, Ganjoni and the environs.

The expansion comes after the Estonian-based company recently announced investment and expansion plans in the country.

“We are delighted to launch our services in Mombasa City as part of our nationwide expansion plan,” Bolt Food Country Manager Edgar Kitur said.

The coastal city boasts a wide array of Swahili delicacies, African cuisine, fast food selections, continental dishes, and seafood platters.

Some of the big chains there include KFC, Chicken Inn, Galito’s, Java House, Adams Barbeque, Crave Mombasa, Snack Attack Restaurant, Milia Gardens, and Damascus Shawarma.

“Currently, we have onboarded over 300 couriers in Mombasa on our platform, thus helping them make a decent living,” Kitur stated.

“We shall continue to work with other couriers and restaurants to create job opportunities for the coastal region.”

Data on the platform for consumer delivery by the firm Statista shows that the number of users in Africa is expected to amount to 79.51 million users by 2027, indicating a continued increase in the growth of online food delivery services.

Currently, Bolt Food has over 1500 restaurants on its platform and provides earning opportunities to over 4000 couriers in Nairobi and its metropolis.

In 2022, Chicken was the most popular item on the Bolt Food delivery platform with over 30,000 orders in the year.

Bolt plans to expand to other cities and towns across Kenya.
