Dr William Samoei Ruto was sworn in as the 5th president of Kenya on Tuesday.
Ruto, who has served as President Uhuru Kenyatta’s deputy since 2013, took his oath at the Kasarani Sports Centre in the capital Nairobi in the presence of Kenyan citizens, dignitaries and other global leaders.
“I William Samoei Ruto …. do swear that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to the Republic of Kenya; that I will obey, preserve, protect and defend this Constitution of Kenya, as by law established, and all other laws of the Republic; and that I will protect and uphold the sovereignty, integrity and dignity of the people of Kenya,” he said.
He also pledged to “Do justice to all in accordance with this Constitution, as by law established, and the laws of Kenya, without fear, favour, affection or ill-will”.

The swearing-in process was led by the Judiciary under Chief Justice Martha Koome and Judiciary registrar Anne Amadi.
President William Ruto also received a copy of the Kenya 2010 Constitution and a sword to symbolise the transfer of power. In addition to the highest award in the country – Chief of the Order of the Golden Heart.

Rigathi took the oath of the assumption of office, beginning with the Oath of Allegiance of the Deputy President, which was administered by Chief Registrar of Judiciary Anne Amadi in presence of Attorney General Paul Kihara.
Gachagua also took the oath of the Due Execution of the Office of the Deputy President.
