The first chartered flight of the season arrived in Mombasa City from Bulgaria, a boost to Kenya’s hospitality sector, Kenya Airports Authority said on Sunday.

The Airbus A320, European Air chartered by Abax Bulgaria limited, departed from Sofia Bulgaria and landed in Mombasa at 9:00 am with over 151 travellers on board who included 35 travel agents from Bulgaria.

One chartered flight – European Air Charters- will fly to the coastal city once every two weeks for the next 3months KAA said.

“The charter flights we have been receiving signal the growing confidence in Kenya’s preparedness against Covid-19. It also indicates that travellers want to come to Magical Kenya to experience our diversity in offering and hospitality,” Kenya Tourism Board Director of Marketing Fred Okeyo said.

“Today, we welcome this Bulgarian charter which adds to the number of flights that the Coast has received in the last year. We shall continue to market Kenya to the world to ensure that we tap into all available markets. That said, this flight is a signal of this growth and confidence in Magical Kenya as a preferred destination globally,” he said.

Bulgaria representative in Kenya Georpi Pase said the arrival of the airline served as testimony to the excellent bilateral relations between Kenya and Bulgaria.

“We are excited to be in Kenya for the first time, Kenya is a great country that every tourist wants to visit, and we are ready for a game drive at Tsavo National park, it has been my dream to visit Kenya,” Popov said.
