Kenya’s Ministry of Health Friday said it will roll out online system to authenticate and verify COVID-19 certificates commencing Monday, January 11th.
The Ministry emphasized that no traveler will leave the country without verification of their certificate using the TT (Trusted Traveler) process.
The Travel Pass Initiative (TPI) is a framework for passengers, testing facilities and airlines to capture and share testing and vaccine requirements with integrity.
Consequently, no laboratory is allowed to issue COVID-19 certificates without TT codes from 9th January 2021.
“I, therefore, wish to notify travelers to first visit an authorized laboratory to take an RT PCR COVID – 19 test and be issued with Trusted Travel ( TT ) codes that can be verified by airlines and Port Health authorities,” he said. “In-bound travelers from countries yet to onboard to the Trusted Travel Initiative will use a tool made available through the UNDP – supported global. Haven partnership for COVID – 19 test results and vaccine certificates verification,” said Health Minister Mutahi Kagwe in a statement seen by Khusoko.

The services will be offered at no cost.
Last year, November, the ministry raised an alarm over the increased number of Kenyans traveling out of the country with the fake Covid 19 clearance certificates.
This was after 17 passengers were arrested at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) after being found in possession of fake Covid-19 clearance certificates.
As a result, the United Arab Emirates listed Kenya among 13 countries slapped with a visa ban due to coronavirus.
