FA Cup to restart on June 27

The FA Cup is set to restart on June 27, ten days after the Premier League resumption.

The dates for this season’s FA Cup fixtures have been confirmed with the Finals set to take place on August 1 at the Wembley Stadium.

The Quarter Finals are set to take place over the weekend of June 27-28, while the Semi-Finals have been penciled for July 11-12.

Although venues for the semi-finals and final are yet to be confirmed, it is expected the final at least will be played at Wembley as is tradition.

The finals have been set for August 1 and will be held in the Wembley Stadium

The competition was also affected when football went into a three month hiatus due to Covid-19 pandemic.

Norwich saw off Jose Mourinho’s Spurs 3-2 in a penalty shootout to book a place in the last-16
Chelsea beat Liverpool 2-0 in the fifth round to book a slot in the last-16

The four quarterfinals – Sheffield vs Arsenal, Norwich City vs Manchester United, Leicester City vs Chelsea and Newcastle United vs Manchester City will be played over the weekend of June 27-28.

Semi-finals are usually also staged at Wembley but this has yet to be confirmed.

FA’s Chief Mark Bullingham said:

‘We are pleased to agree the provisional restart date for the 2019/20 FA Cup.

‘The competition has been an integral part of the English football calendar for nearly 150 years, and we’d like to thank the Premier League executive and clubs for their support in scheduling the remaining matches during this unprecedented time.

‘This has been a difficult period for many people and while this is a positive step, the restart date is dependent on all safety measures being met.

‘The health and well-being of players, staff and supporters remains our priority.’

Newcastle will be looking to stop Manchester City when they clash in one of the Quarter-final fixtures

The eight teams left in the competition will face a crunch fixture schedule as the Premier League is hoping to have the remaining 92 fixtures played out in 39 days, with the final weekend on July 25-26.

The FA Cup final will then take place the following weekend.
