‘Come Fight Me!’ AJ tells Fury

  • AJ has thrown a challenge to Fury for a fight
  • The fight would crown an Undisputed Heavyweight Champion

Anthony Joshua has called out Tyson Fury for a clash to determine who the ‘dominant heavyweight champion of the world’ is.

AJ, who holds the IBF, WBA and WBO belts, has called out his British compatriot for a fight to crown a Unified Heavyweight Champion.

Fury won the WBC Heavyweight Champion in Las Vegas in February when he outboxed and floored Deontay Wilder twice before the fight was stopped in the seventh round when the American’s trainer threw in the towel.

Joshua reclaimed the IBF, WBA and WBO when he produced a master class boxing spectacle in Saudi Arabia in December last year.

Speaking to SkySports, Fury said that Fury could not claim to be the division’s Number One fighter until he shared the ring with him.

If you really want to say you’re No 1, come fight me. Let’s get it on.

“I’m the unified heavyweight champion of the world, he’s the WBC champion. What it will prove, me and him fighting? There will be one dominant figure in the heavyweight division that will have all of the belts and become undisputed.

“Logically to prove yourself as No 1, I have to fight Tyson Fury. He has to fight Anthony Joshua.”

Fury is set to face Wilder in October 3 in Las Vegas when Wilder triggered his rematch clause.

Joshua is due to defend his titles against mandatory challenger Kubrat Pulev.

Joshua further informed that he would ask Pulev to ‘step aside’ for now and let him fight Fury. He then threw a thinly veiled dig at Wilder when he said “…tell Wilder we have a bigger fish to fry. Enjoy your Alabama chicken while we get cracking in the UK!”

Should the fight happen, the victor will be the first unified champion of the division since Lennox Lewis.

Lewis remains the last heavyweight champion to hold the undisputed title
