Serie A may not finish until October

  • The Italian league may not end until October
  • Italy is one of the worst-affected nations by the coronavirus

Italian Football Association has reports that the Serie A might not finish until October.

Dr. Maurizio Casasco, the president of the Italian Sports Doctors’ Association reported that Italian football may take a little longer than other countries before it resumes and eventually concludes.

He further insisted that there can be no return to action until all players are tested and the situation appears contained.

Italy has been one of the worst hit nations by the coronavirus pandemic that has 15,887 deaths and 128,948 confirmed cases according to WHO.

Serie A Games could take a while longer to resume

While the country has passed the peak of the pandemic, the country is still on lockdown with the Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte extending the date to April 13.

FIGC president Gabriele Gravina reported that:

We’re working on a whole series of hypotheses to manage this situation as best as we can. A possible date to resume the season is May 17 but we know, and I reiterate, that is only a possibility.

Players drawn from Juventus, Sampdoria and Fiorentina have tested positive to the virus.

Prevalence of the virus in Italy has been partly blamed on the Champions League clash between Atalanta and Valencia back in February where 44,000 fans attended.
