Africa Merchant Assurance Company (Amaco), an insurance firm, has distanced itself from being liquidated.

This is despite a Gazette notice No. 12216 that has been filed for liquidation in the High Court of Kenya Commercial and Admiralty Division, Nairobi. The petition filed by Beth Kahara and six others.

According to the notice, the case was mentioned on November 7.

“We would like to assure our customers & the general public that we have not filed for bankruptcy proceedings contrary to an article circulating on social media. We’ve not been served with any notice or court proceedings on the same. We are addressing the same via the rightful channels,” said Amaco via its Company social feed.

According to the notice doing rounds on social media, published on December 27, asks any creditor or contributory of Africa Merchants Assurance Company (Amaco) to appear for the hearing slated for January 30 through B.W. Kamunge & Company Advocates.

“Any creditor or contributory of the said company desirous to support or oppose the making of an order on the said petition may appear at the time of hearing in person or by his advocate for that purpose and a copy of the petition will be furnished by the undersigned to any creditor or contributory of the said company requesting such a copy on payment of regulated charge for the same, ” the notice reads in part.
