Kenya commissioned East and Central Africa’s largest 50 MW photovoltaic electricity station in Garrissa in North Eastern.
The Ksh 13 billion plant occupies 210 acres, was developed by the Rural Energy Authority (REA) designed and built by EPC contractor China Jiangxi Corporation for International Economic and Technical Co-operation adds to Kenya’s profile as a leader in renewable energy in Africa.
President Uhuru Kenyatta said the power plant is part of a broad government renewable energy strategy to harvest 400MW of electricity from the country’s solar resource.

Peter Mbugua, chief executive REA, said the project begun in Nov.2018 and has been generating power for the last one year.
According to Xinhua, Zhang Jian, country representative of CJIC in Kenya, said “The output for annual power supply from the project is 100,000 MWH…We are hopeful it will serve Kenya for the next 25 years.”
