Dr. Margaret Nyang’ate Nyakang’o was on Wednesday sworn-in as the second Controller of Budget (CoB) under the current Constitution.

Members of Parliament approved her nomination on Tuesday. She was vetted last week after President Uhuru Kenyatta nominated her to replace Agnes Odhiambo, the first holder of the office since the Constitution came to force in 2010.

Ms. Odhiambo’s term expired in August.

Nyakang’o is a diligent and self-motivated team leader as well as player, with solid skills and experience in a wide variety of organizations in both public and private sectors of the Kenyan economy.

As an auditor, she’s responsible for reviewing government spending to check for waste, fraud, and abuse.

Chief Justice David Maraga who swore her into office said, “The Office plays an important role in ensuring the prudent and planned use of public funds. I wish her well in this important assignment.”

The Controller of Budgets holds office for a term of eight years and once completed is not eligible for re-appointment.
