Kenya’s low-cost carrier Jambojet on Monday completed its inaugural Flight JM 8546 to Kigali, its second regional route.
The Kigali route is also served by Kenya Airways, Rwandair and Ethiopian Airlines.
“Today we mark a major milestone in our regional expansion strategy. We aim to grow our footprint across the continent while offering a unique product for these markets. We expect that our low-cost model will enable more people to fly affordably, conveniently, and safely,” said Jambojet Chief Executive Allan Kilavuka.

We believe our entry into Rwanda will boost trade flows within the two countries. We are also eyeing cities with South Sudan, Tanzania, DRC Congo, and the Comoros islands – Jambojet Chief Executive Allan Kilavuka.

Jambojet will be flying once daily from their hub at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Nairobi, to Kigali International Airport, Kigali.
Currently, it flies to Malindi, Ukunda, Mombasa, Kisumu, Eldoret, and one regional destination-Entebbe, Uganda – from its hub in Nairobi.
Plans for the Mogadishu route have been pushed to 2020. “We were to begin operations in Mogadishu on November 24. However, we did not get the time slots we had requested and hence we are still in discussions with the authorities,” said Jambojet Chief Executive Allan Kilavuka.
“Our entry into the two markets is part of our regional expansion programme and brings to three the total number of routes we operate in the continent with the exception of those we fly to on behalf of Kenya Airways,” said Kilavuka.
The airline was also among the 165 aircraft showcased at the just concluded 2019 Dubai Airshow. It’s the only Kenyan operator to ever be showcased at an international airshow.
Jambojet is a subsidiary of Kenya Airways. It was established in April 2014, as the first low-cost local airline in Kenya.
