Communications Authority to Hold its 19th Kikao Kikuu Forum in Embu County

The Embu County Government in partnership with the Communication Authority will host its 19th County ICT Consumer Forum on Thursday, 28 Nov. 2019.

The forum dubbed ‘Kikao Kikuu’, themed ‘‘Using ICT as an enabler of opportunities’ will be held at the University of Embu grounds. 

CA will provide a platform of interaction with ICT consumers and service providers among other stakeholders to explore solutions to challenges in communications within the devolved units.

The Authority is charged with safeguarding the interests of consumers of ICT services. This is achieved through the enforcement of consumer regulations as well as educating users of these services on their rights and responsibilities.

The 18th Kikao Kikuu forum was held in Nyandarua County.

ICT Status in Embu County

According to Embu County ICT Roadmap for the year between 2015 and 2020, it aims to use ICT as a tool for enhancing service delivery for its citizens.

“The Roadmap attempts to address the whole range of government services that can be transformed by ICT. It looks at policies, Governance institutions, and mechanisms, human capital, ICT infrastructure, as well as ICT and mobile applications that can help to deliver services better at a lower cost.”

It is anchored in four categories namely: Connected County Government, Connected Citizens, Citizen Satisfaction and Connected legislator.

It says the areas are important in enabling the county to deliver a Unified ICT services delivery mechanism at low cost, addresses specific County development challenges and is measurable.

In September 2014, the ICT ministry embarked on the second phase of the National Optic Fibre Backbone Infrastructure in Embu County. This helped the county to enjoy high-speed Internet access, high speed and reliable connectivity to the national government systems which host the ID, passports, births and deaths registration facilities and the Integrated Financial Management Information System.

In July, the government established a Constituency Innovation Hub (CIH) at the Kiritiri trading center in Mbeere South Constituency.  The center’s objective is to provide free internet, training, and workspaces to enable the public to access online jobs and information for decision making.

Under the Education Broadband Connectivity Project, part of the universal service fund to improve education through digital learning has been able to provide Internet connectivity to twenty-four schools in Embu East, Embu North, Embu West, and Mbeere South sub-counties.
