    Ruth Chepngetich ‘Queen of The Midnight Marathon’ Triumphs in Doha

    Kenya’s Ruth Chepngetich on Friday became the third-fastest woman in history by running 2:32:43 at the Women’s Marathon in  Doha.

    “Our first Doha 2019 champion! Ruth Chepngetich clocked an impressive 2:32:43 in the Women’s Marathon Final on the Doha Corniche tonight to take GOLD for Kenya,” Tweeted the official Twitter feed of the IAAF World Athletics Championships Doha 2019.

    “I am very happy with the win and bringing back the gold to Kenya,” said Chepngetich. “It was a tough race but I knew what to expect as I ran in Dubai. I trained for this weather running in the afternoon when the sun was high.”

    Bahrain’s defending champion Ruth Chelimo, 39, was second in 2:33.46 and Commonwealth champion Helalia Johannes of Namibia, also 39, took bronze in 2:34.15.
