Uganda Airlines is set to launch its maiden flight between Nairobi and Entebbe stirring up rivalry for the route with Kenya Airways low-cost carrier JamboJet.

“Ready to fly with us on our maiden flights? Well, pack your bags Uganda; for we are heading to Nairobi,” it tweeted on Friday.

In April, the country received two Bombardier CRJ900 jets (5x-KOB and 5x-EQU) as part of its plan to revive national carrier Uganda Airlines, which was grounded almost two decades ago.

In 2018, Jambojet launched a double daily flight between Nairobi and Entebbe. Jambojet operates double daily flights with departures from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) at 09.10hrs and 17.30 hrs.  The flight departs Entebbe International Airport for Nairobi at 11.00 hrs and 19.20 hrs daily.

Jambojet has acquired a three-year license from the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority to operate in seven new African countries.

The licences allow the airline to fly to Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), Dar-es-Salaam, Zanzibar, Kilimanjaro, Mwanza (Tanzania), Kigali (Rwanda), Jubba, Hargeisa, Mogadishu (Somalia), Goma, Kisangani (Democratic Republic of Congo), Moroni (Union of the Comoros) and Lilongwe from its hub at JKIA.

Currently, the airline flies to three African destinations namely Entebbe, (Uganda), Blantyre (Malawi) and Bujumbura (Burundi).
