The Communications Authority (CA) has appointed its legal services director, Mercy Wanjau as its new Acting Director-General replacing Francis Wangusi who has been at the helm of the authority since August 2012.
“Ms Mercy Wanjau is a commercial lawyer, a regulatory and governance professional currently working with the Communications Authority of Kenya as the Director Legal Services and Board Secretary. She has been involved in designing and harmonising policy and regulation in the ICT sector at the local, regional and international level over 15 years,” CA Board Chairman Ngene Gituku said in a statement on Thursday.
Wanjau will be responsible for coordinating all the organization’s activities. CA is a strategic parastatal charged with the job of regulating the ICT industry, licensing and regulating telecommunications, Postal and Courier as well as Broadcasting Services.

in her previous role, she has engaged extensively in negotiations, stakeholder consultations and implementation of the ICT frameworks locally, in the region -Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) and the East African Community (EAC) and internationally.
Prior to her appointment, she was a consultant with KPMG South Africa, Price Waterhouse Coopers Kenya.
She also served on the International secondment at the UN-international telecommunications union. She is also an Eisenhower Fellow and a published author with the ITU and UNCTAD.
