MultiChoice Kenya will replace its DStv bouquets with four packages on 5 November 2026, priced from KES 750 to KES 7,300 a month. It is the first redesign of the product range since DStv launched in Kenya 30 years ago.
Managing Director Nzola Miranda announced the changes at a media briefing in Nairobi under the “DStv Expect+” campaign. He said the aim is to widen the audience for the company’s content.
Four packs replace a crowded lineup
The packages are Starter, Select, Sports and Ultimate. Miranda said customers see six products on the surface while 33 sit behind the scenes. The company wants to cut that number.
“Expect more is not just a campaign name. It is a business philosophy,” Miranda said. “More choice, more value, more content, and less price increases.”
Customers keep the right to upgrade, downgrade or change packages at any time.
| Pack | Monthly price | Channels | Main content |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | KES 750 | 116+ | Local channels, La Liga, Super Sport Kickoff, Premier League Match of the Week, kids, novelas |
| Select | KES 1,500 | 149+ | Starter channels plus M-Net Movies, M-Net Stars, CNN, Serie A, international news |
| Sports | KES 3,000 | 159+ | All Premier League, Champions League, Europa League and Conference League games, plus WWE, UFC, ESPN2, NBA |
| Ultimate | KES 7,300 | 180+ | Everything above plus Formula 1, rugby, tennis, MotoGP, golf and M-Net |
Football games sit in one pack for the first time
Sports subscribers will get Premier League and UEFA competitions in one package. Until now, viewers who wanted both had to upgrade, often on match night.
“For the first time ever, in the same pack, you are going to have all Premier League games, all Champions League games, all Europa League games, all Conference League games,” Miranda said. “People do not have to call us at 10 in the evening to upgrade.”
He said the bundle also removes account disconnections that follow an upgrade or downgrade. A reporter from Sports Africa asked what the move means for the business. Miranda said there are two ways to grow. “You either increase prices, you get more money from less people, or you increase the number of customers, even if they pay lower. We are now embarking on a journey to have more and more customers join us and watch football, sports and entertainment seamlessly.”
He added that many former customers may be in the room and might return. MultiChoice Kenya also confirmed rights to all Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and the 2027 tournament on SuperSport, and UEFA rights to 2031. SuperSport Swahili is a new channel.
Local content moves to the lowest price point
Starter carries Maisha Magic Plus, the channel where the Chama series launched, and Maisha Magic Loko, a vernacular channel that began with Luo. M-Net Legends brings movies to the pack earlier than the previous M-Net channel did.
“There have been long debates on how we protect our local industry and make content more accessible,” Miranda said. “By putting Chama at our lowest price point, we want more households to see it.”
Canal+ ownership drives the change
Canal+ completed its acquisition of MultiChoice Group in September 2025, and Khusoko tracks the takeover and its effects on MultiChoice. Miranda said the parent group runs a mass market model. “We now belong to a global group with a different philosophy. The more people who watch our content, the better. That is why we are making our content available to more people and not restricting it to some.”
He tied the timing to subscriber losses after repeated price increases. MultiChoice Kenya raised prices six times between March 2022 and August 2025, when Premium rose to KES 11,700. Communications Authority of Kenya data showed active DStv subscriptions falling from 1.19 million in mid 2024 to 188,824 by June 2025.
“Increasing prices without adding content or value is worthless. That is why some of our customers left us, and we hope from November they start coming back,” Miranda said. He said Ultimate costs 40% less than the current top package. “We need to meet where the pockets of Kenyans are. This is the start of another 30 years for us to stay here in Kenya.”
Piracy and free to air television
A journalist asked what will make Kenyan households pay for DStv when piracy and free to air channels compete for viewers. Miranda called piracy “the biggest threat of the industry.” He said the company works with government on stronger laws. It has helped curb cable piracy, and the next target is streaming piracy.
He argued that price and data costs favour satellite. “The cost of unlimited internet is still quite high. You can have satellite TV for as little as 750 shillings and watch 24 hours, and that is cheaper than consuming your data bundles.” He also warned about pirate links. “If you are not paying, you are the product. There are issues with user experience and data privacy.” On free to air, he said lower prices and more varied content should reach more families.
Onboarding costs for new customers
New customers can buy any pack from 5 November without migration. Miranda gave a total for the Starter route. “The decoder and dish are 1,500, installation is 500, and the pack is 750. That comes to 2,750. If you have 2,750 from the fifth of November, you can start watching the new pack straight away.”
Active customers will receive messages from that date on how to move from old packs to new ones. They stay on current packages until then. On GOtv, the entry package Live becomes Easy at KES 300. DStv Stream customers get the same four packs, with live television and on demand titles.
Streaming limits and Multi View plans
MultiChoice Kenya said Stream allows two concurrent streams, one on a TV and one on a mobile or tablet. Miranda said the limit could change. “In other parts of the world we have more concurrent streams. As soon as we understand how Kenyan consumers use Stream, we can add 4K, more devices and more concurrent views.”
He said the DStv Stream app will move to the Canal+ app by mid next year. A Multi View feature, planned for July 2027, will show four live matches on one screen. “Imagine those Champions League nights, now there are 189 games. You can have four matches on your tablet and another four on your screen.”
Official support and payment channels
MultiChoice Kenya warned that other companies pose as the operator and asked customers to use official channels only. Customers can call 0711 066 000 or 0711 066 555, change packages through USSD *423# or the MyDStv app, and pay through M-PESA Paybill 444900 for DStv or 423655 for GOtv.
