Nigerian singer AfroReekAH is releasing her new EP, REEPLAY, out now.
Born Ogechukwu Obi-Benson, the artist says the project marks a specific point in her development.
“REEPLAY is a body of work that reflects where I am creatively at this point in my journey, sonically, visually, and as an artist,” she told Khusoko. “The project explores love, desire, vulnerability, confidence and self-discovery, while blending Afropop, Afrobeats and AfroFusion into a world that feels distinctly ReekAH.”
Where Nigerian music stands right now
The release lands at a turning point for Afrobeats. Sony Music West Africa’s head of marketing, Omolola Ige, described a market moving away from formulaic releases toward stronger sound identities, summing up 2026 as a year that is less about volume and more about impact.
Other executives surveyed in that same report pointed to shorter attention spans around full length albums and a market hungry for original sound over formula.
That gap is opening space for genres pushed to the margins during the Afrobeats boom. A breakdown of the trends set to shape Nigerian music in 2026 points to underground sound reaching the mainstream, alongside R&B steadily reclaiming ground next to a louder, more experimental pop scene.
What AfroReekAH brings to that shift
AfroReekAH fits into that opening. Her catalogue runs on the same R&B and Afrobeats fusion the market is now rewarding, built around emotional honesty rather than the party record formula that dominated the genre’s last decade. Khusoko’s earlier profile of the singer places her among a generation from outside Lagos pushing that fusion forward, noting she hails from southeastern Nigeria and has built a reputation there through live shows and her breakout record, Cheta Remix.
She has described her own approach as one where rhythm carries the foundation and honesty gives the music its weight, citing Olamide and Rihanna as reference points for pairing lyrical depth with music people can still dance to. That mix, rather than a single sound, is what she is positioning REEPLAY around.
A sound built on R&B, pop and Afro house
AfroReekAH works across R&B, pop, Afro house and other African rhythms, turning everyday experience into lyrics about vulnerability and confidence rather than abstraction. She started her career in 2024 and has paired each release with visuals, fashion and a wider creative identity, treating music as one part of a larger output rather than a standalone product.
Recognition from established names in the industry
AfroReekAH was a finalist in the 2024 TAL Songwriters Contest. She has drawn cosigns from producer MasterKraft, plus artists Fave, Teni The Entertainer, Jeriq and Boypee, and was selected as a cover artist for Audiomack’s Pop+ playlist. Her catalogue has also featured on Spotify’s New Music Friday, with additional coverage from The Debut Hub, The Guardian UK and Jukebox.
A catalogue that now spans four projects
REEPLAY follows Colors EP and Cheta, both released in 2024, and the single WTF, released in 2025. With REEPLAY, AfroReekAH extends a run that began two years ago, arriving just as the market she has been building in makes more room for the sound she has been making all along. She shared the release on her own X account, and posts under @afroreekah and @afroreekah__ on Instagram, and as Reekahlive on TikTok.
