Shashwat Harish and Audrey Gachora emerged overall winners in the 3rd leg of the Safaricom Golf Tour held at Muthaiga Golf Club Sunday.
The duo participated in the Junior Golf tournament which doubled up as a US Kids Golf local tour event.
The duo posted 78 and 77 points to inch titles in a tournament that saw 132 junior golfers take part.
“I feel proud to be the best girl in this junior tournament held here today. The course was challenging but I am happy I was able to win. I am looking forward to continue with my training and performing well in the coming tournaments”, said Audrey Gachora

Nathan Mujomba and Maryam Mwakiawa scored 78 and 91 to emerge best boy and girl in the 13-14 years old category. In the 9- 10 years old category Kanana Muthomi emerged the best girl after scoring 39 points while Jeff Kibe was named the best boy in the 7 years-old boys’ category after scoring 58 points.
The youngsters also had an opportunity to be trained by Njoroge Kibugu, Kenya’s golf protégé during the golf clinic.
The golf clinics target students between the ages of 6 to 18 years old, from schools around the golf clubs marked for the tour.

“Today’s golf clinic was really amazing and I got the chance to interact with over 70 juniors whom I got to train. It was a pleasure sharing what I have learnt in golf with the young ones. I was 6 years old when I started playing golf and my hope is that many of these kids will develop an interest and pick up the sport”, said Njoroge Kibugu.
“This is a fun golf day that will introduce juniors to golf and ultimately scout and identify an average of about 30 juniors who will train at the club for 8months,” says Safaricom.
In the corporate tournament held on Saturday, Zain Manji emerged victorious after carding 41 points. Fuwad Abdallah won the men’s prize on 39 points as Anthony Wachira finished second.
Lucy Njoroge won the women’s edition with 40 points with Mary Wainaina claiming second place on 39 points. Peter Maina won the caddy’s prize at the tournament.

“We continue to celebrate and support our sportsmen and women as they go beyond to achieve greatness on the golf course,” Safaricom Tweeted during the prize-giving session.
The Overall Winner, Top Man and Top Lady ) from each respective event will compete in the grand finale in Vipingo for the grand prize.
The fourth leg of the Safaricom golf Tour heads to Nyanza Golf Club on March 26th-27th 2022, before proceeding to the Machakos Golf Club.
