Sidian Bank has pledged KES 2 million to Mama Ibado Charity (MIC), powering the second edition of Run 4 Seniors.
The charity race takes place on 18 July 2026 at Karura Forest in Nairobi, and the funds will go directly toward improving healthcare, nutrition and dignity for vulnerable senior citizens across Kenya.
Kenya’s Senior Population Is Growing Fast
The timing matters. According to the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics, the number of Kenyans aged 60 and above has climbed to nearly 3.2 million people, almost 6 percent of the population, up from 1.9 million recorded in the 2009 census. Life expectancy keeps rising, families keep shrinking, and more older Kenyans now need formal support systems that simply did not exist a generation ago. Think of the grandmother raising grandchildren alone, or the retired teacher whose pension barely covers a clinic visit. These are not edge cases. They represent a fast growing share of the population, and they are exactly who Run 4 Seniors exists to serve.
Sidian Bank now joins a growing list of partners behind this year’s event, a sign that more companies see elder welfare as a cause worth funding rather than an afterthought.
What Run 4 Seniors Sets Out to Do
Run 4 Seniors raises awareness and mobilises resources for programmes that tackle the health, nutrition and social welfare needs of vulnerable older Kenyans. Organisers expect corporates, development partners, community groups and hundreds of runners to take part, all rallying around one goal: dignity and inclusion for older persons.
Charity President: Partnerships Protect Dignity in Old Age
Mama Ibado Charity President Ahmed Jibril said the sponsorship reflects a growing recognition that senior welfare deserves serious investment.
“We are delighted to welcome Sidian Bank as a partner in this year’s Run 4 Seniors. Their generous contribution will go a long way in helping us expand our reach and deepen the impact of our programmes for elderly persons across the country. Together, we are sending a powerful message that our seniors matter and deserve to live their later years in dignity, comfort and good health,” said Jibril.
He added that Kenya’s aging population calls for more collaboration. “As Kenya’s ageing population continues to grow, there is an increasing need for collaborative efforts that address the challenges facing senior citizens. Partnerships such as this help us bring more attention, care and support to older persons who are too often overlooked.”
Sidian Bank Ties the Sponsorship to Community Impact
Sidian Bank Chief Executive Officer John Okulo said backing the initiative fits squarely within the bank’s broader purpose of transforming lives in the communities it serves.
“At Sidian Bank, we recognise that strong communities are built when every generation is valued and supported. Run 4 Seniors presents an opportunity for us to contribute to a cause that uplifts some of the most vulnerable members of society. We are proud to stand with Mama Ibado Charity in promoting the welfare, dignity and inclusion of senior citizens,” said Okulo.
Race Day Details and How to Register
This year’s race builds on the momentum of its first edition and aims to draw even bigger crowds while keeping the spotlight on Kenya’s elderly population. Runners can choose from 5 km, 10 km and 15 km categories, with every entry supporting health, wellbeing and social impact work for seniors. Registration is open now at www.mamaibado.org.
About Mama Ibado Charity
Mama Ibado Charity is a nonprofit registered in both Kenya and Canada, built around one mission: helping vulnerable senior citizens age with dignity. Its Seniors Feeding Program and Seniors Healthcare Program deliver food, medical access and social care to older Kenyans, with a strong focus on communities in Isiolo and Kakamega. As Kenya’s elderly population keeps growing, partnerships like the one with Sidian Bank show what is possible when corporates, charities and communities decide that no one should grow old without support.
