The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) has announced the release of new KSh50, KSh100, KSh200, and KSh500 banknotes, following the earlier release of the KSh1000 banknotes.

In a statement on Wednesday, November 20, 2023, the CBK highlighted the key features of the new banknotes:

  • Signatures: The banknotes will bear the signatures of Central Bank Governor Dr. Kamau Thugge and National Treasury Principal Secretary Dr. Chris Kiptoo.
  • Year of Print: The year of print is 2024.
  • Security Features: The banknotes will incorporate new security threads with color-changing effects specific to each denomination.

“We wish to update the public that the release of KES 50, KES 100, KES 200, and KES 500 denominations is now in progress. Other than the changes highlighted above, all other features of the banknotes remain the same as those of the series issued in 2019,” CBK remarked.

Additionally, the bank reassured the public that all existing banknotes in circulation will continue to be legal tender and will circulate alongside the new ones.
