Human Mobile Devices (HMD), the company behind Nokia phones since 2016, is undergoing a significant transformation.
The Finnish brand is rebranding as simply “HMD,” representing its evolution beyond Nokia phones, focusing on accessibility, repairability, and innovation through partnerships and a multi-brand approach.
Sanmeet Singh Kochhar, Vice President of the AMEA Region at HMD Global, said, “Our dedication goes beyond creating devices.
It is about ushering in a future where technology is not only universally accessible and environmentally responsible but also embodies the principles of repairability and durability.
This vision propels us towards operational excellence and sets a new benchmark for what it means to be truly innovative in our industry.”
It further disclosed that HMD will not kill the Nokia brand. Its plans for 2024 summer at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024 include launching a Barbie-branded flip phone built in association with the toy maker Mattel.
“Promising style, nostalgia and a much-needed digital detox, this retro feature phone will flip the script on smartphone culture and will be this summer’s hottest accessory,” said HMD.
“You’ll continue to see Nokia phones, and we will bring back an iconic phone this summer.”
