Equity Bank Rwanda celebrated a new chapter in empowering Rwanda’s future leaders with the induction of 36 high-performing students into the prestigious Equity Leaders Program (ELP). 

Launched in 2021, ELP focuses on nurturing academically gifted scholars through scholarships, leadership development, and community engagement.

The rigorous program offers:

  • Paid internships: Scholars gain hands-on experience and mentorship across Equity Bank Rwanda departments for three months.
  • University support: Ongoing mentorship and coaching guide scholars throughout their higher education journey.
  • Global opportunities: access to scholarships at top universities worldwide, including Ivy League institutions.

Dr. James Mwangi, Equity Group Holdings Managing Director and CEO emphasized the program’s impact: “Over the past three decades, Equity Group has facilitated 18,735 scholars’ entry into universities and 8,337 paid internships at Equity Bank.”

On the other hand, Hannington Namara, Equity Bank Rwanda Managing Director, affirmed the commitment: “Equity Bank is committed to creating sustainable change by implementing programs like ELP.”

Jean Nepo Abdallah Utumatwishima, Minister of Youth, commended the initiative: “In a nation with 65% youth, ELP plays a pivotal role in shaping a brighter future for Rwanda.”

ELP’s success stories

In Rwanda, 890 scholars secured fully funded scholarships at 201 leading global universities, including Ivy League institutions.

Over 102 Rwandan students have benefited from ELP, transitioning to renowned local and international universities.
