Kenya Airways (KQ) has leased an A330 Airbus from Hi Fly, a leading lease and charter airline, to boost its operations and capacity during the festive season.
The ACMI lease will allow KQ to add the aircraft to its fleet immediately.
Kenya Airways CEO, Allan Kilavuka, said the lease was a practical solution to the growing demand for air travel and the limited capacity of the airline.
He said the new aircraft would improve the stability, efficiency, and convenience of KQ’s services.
“With the current capacity constraints on the back of the growing demand for airline travel, we need to balance our customers’ immediate needs by bringing more capacity into the market,” said Kilavuka in an emailed statement.
The A330 can carry 299 passengers, 24 in business and 275 in economy, and has extra cargo space.
The lease also coincides with the expected rise in travellers after President William Ruto announced that Kenya would become a visa-free country in January 2024.
Kenya Airways, a member of the Sky Team Alliance, is a leading African airline flying to 42 destinations worldwide.
