Safaricom has launched a month-long Christmas campaign called “Sambaza Furaha” that aims to deepen customer engagement and experience.

The campaign began on December 6, 2023, at Hon. John Njoroge Secondary School in Kasaran.

“Sambaza Furaha” is a campaign by Safaricom that aims to spread joy and kindness during the festive season. The campaign encourages people to share the season’s blessings with others, especially after a year of toiling and sacrifice.

The Safaricom Foundation, which is celebrating 20 years of transforming lives, will engage various communities across the country through the distribution of care packages to hospitals, food hampers, visits to children’s homes, and lunch drives targeting street families.

The campaign will feature delightful surprises across the country with gifts such as airtime and special offers. As part of the campaign, Safaricom will also delight customers with gamified experiences, allowing them to spin a wheel on the Safaricom website and win amazing prizes, including offers in data, airtime, coupons, and more, upon redeeming their Bonga Points. This interactive approach not only deepens customer engagement but also embodies the joyous theme of sharing during the festive season.

According to Peter Ndegwa, Safaricom’s CEO, “Our ‘Sambaza Furaha’ campaign is more than just offers; it’s about coming together as a community, spreading the Christmas cheer, and making a difference in the lives of those around us. We recognize the economic challenges faced by many during this season, and this campaign aims to demonstrate our continuous support for our customers, ensuring that they can still enjoy the festive season despite economic constraints.”

What is in Safaricom Sambaza Furaha?

Safaricom’s “Niokolee Na Bonga” feature will allow customers to use their Bonga Points to pay for utility bills (water, electricity) and other essential goods and services across a wide network of Lipa Na M-PESA merchants. This not only adds value to the points but also promotes the spirit of giving back and making a positive impact during the holiday season. Customers can now use their Bonga Points to pay back their Fuliza loan.

In addition, customers can purchase locally assembled Neon smartphones, which come with free accessories, using a combination of Bonga Points and cash.

Customers can donate their Bonga Points to the World Food Programme, UNHCR, and World Vision through the “Bonga For Good” initiative.

M-PESA customers will enjoy discounts of up to 20% off local flights, SGR train tickets, and bus gift vouchers when they pay using the M-PESA Mini Apps, creating more opportunities for customers to celebrate without financial strain.

Customers will also enjoy discounts of up to 33% at selected brands, including Spice World, Gilanis, Pepinos, Dominos, Mama Rocks, Wings Kenya, and Simbisa when paying through the MySafaricom App.

Additionally, they will also enjoy discounts of up to 40% when paying for travel with partners like Bella Safaris, Bonfire, and Travel Shore, and a further 20% off for accommodation at Alba Hotel Meru, Social House in Nairobi, and Ciala Resort in Kisumu.
