Bolt, the on-demand mobility platform, suspended over 5000 drivers in Kenya in the last six months for non-compliance and safety-related issues.

The company says this is part of its commitment to ensuring rider and driver safety on its platform.

Linda Ndungu, Bolt Kenya Country Manager, said: “We value the trust our users place in us, and we are taking proactive steps to ensure their well-being during every ride.”

“Our enhanced safety measures, stricter compliance measures, and technology-driven solutions reaffirm our commitment to providing a secure and reliable transportation experience for all.”

Some of the safety initiatives that Bolt has implemented include the following:

  • Monitoring and evaluating user behaviour and taking swift action in response to any safety concerns. For example, Bolt introduced the driver selfie check feature that prevents driver impersonation and account sharing.
  • Providing comprehensive awareness and training programs for riders and drivers on safety best practices, platform guidelines, and in-app safety features. The company says it will also enforce consequences for any violations, including permanent suspension from the platform.
  • Improving the reporting mechanisms for safety incidents, enabling easy in-app communication and prompt assistance. The company also has dedicated 24/7 safety and social media support available in-app.
  • Blocking drivers and riders reported for any misconduct from accessing the platform permanently

The company has invested over Sh20 million to reinforce its safety features and measures, leveraging cutting-edge technology for monitoring user behaviour.
