Regional low-cost airline Jambojet is set to open a new route from Mombasa to Zanzibar starting in July 2024.

The route will connect the two coastal destinations that share a rich cultural heritage and offer stunning beaches and attractions.

Tourism is a vital sector for the economies of the East African Community (EAC) region. It contributes about 17% to export earnings, about 10% to GDP, and about 7% to employment.

The EAC Tourism Marketing Strategy aims to position the region as Africa’s leading sustainable tourism destination with five key objectives, including developing competitive multi-destination tourism products and branding East Africa as a single tourism destination.

Jambojet MD & CEO, Mr Karanja Ndegwa, said that Jambojet is committed to providing reliable, affordable, and accessible connectivity to support multi-destination travel in the region.

He said that the new Mombasa-Zanzibar route is a testament to Jambojet’s role as a catalyst for tourism growth and expansion in East Africa.

Jambojet operates flights to seven destinations from its primary hub in Nairobi, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, and two destinations from its secondary hub in Mombasa.

Jambojet was named Africa’s Leading Low-Cost Airline at the World Travel Awards and has flown over six million passengers since its inception.
