Pasta meal consumption in Kenya has surged by 99 per cent over the past year, according to recent data from Glovo.

The data, released on World Pasta Day, reveals that five units of pasta were delivered every hour via the Glovo App, marking a 57.8 per cent year-on-year increase in customers ordering pasta. 

Pasta is particularly popular for dinner, with 32 per cent of daily consumption occurring between 5 and 7 p.m.

Glovo Kenya’s Interim General Manager, Ivy Maingi, noted a significant 72.3% increase in partners offering pasta-related products compared to the previous year. 

“Our platform has witnessed a substantial 72.3% increase in the number of partners offering pasta-related products compared to the previous year,” Maingi said.

Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) have seen the most growth, with a remarkable 101% increase.

Nairobi leads in pasta consumption at 87 per cent, followed by Mombasa at five per cent and Ngong, Rongai, and Karen at four per cent. 

Other towns such as Syokimau, Kisumu, and Thika have also seen substantial uptakes.

The top five most-ordered pasta dishes in Kenya are Chicken Alfredo, Traditional Lasagna, Fusilli Pesto, Spaghetti Bolognese, and Linguine Carbonara. 

Globally, Kenya ranks second among countries with the highest consumption of ‘Pasta containing chicken’ and ‘Pasta containing meat’. 

The top partners with the most pasta orders include Naivas, Carrefour, Chandarana Foodplus, Quickmart, Little Italy, Artcaffe, CJ’s Restaurant, Mambo Italia, and La Salumeria.
