The Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon, set for October 29, 2023, has received over KES 178 million in support from more than 30 partners.

This support, mostly in-kind, will enhance the marathon experience for participants.

The marathon, celebrating its 20th anniversary, has seen over 270,000 runners participate since its inception and has raised over KES 750 million for various initiatives.

The proceeds from the marathon will go towards Standard Chartered Kenya’s ‘Future Makers’ initiative, which promotes economic inclusion for disadvantaged youth.

Peter Gitau, Chair of the Local Organising Committee, expressed delight at the transformative impact of the marathon and the partnership with sponsors.

“Beyond the transformative impact of our Marathon for athletes, we are delighted to be partnering with our sponsors who use our Marathon as a vehicle to promote greater economic inclusion, especially for disadvantaged young people, as all proceeds from the marathon are dedicated to Standard Chartered Kenya’s ‘Future Makers’ initiative,” said Peter Gitau.

Standard Chartered Kenya has contributed KES 100 million towards the event.

Prudential, a leading global insurance company, has provided KES 10 million in cash and kind and will provide comprehensive insurance support for the event.

Prudential will also ensure all participants are adequately covered by providing exclusive insurance services for the event and has secured rights for the popular 5km race.

Other sponsors include Akili Kids (family zone sponsor), Tetra Pak and Oral Rehydration Solutions (official hydration partners), Little (Kit fulfilment partner and discounted transport provider), Greenspoon (official fruits provider), Harleys (relief stations provider), and Techno (gadget provider). Subaru, AAR and G4S will provide lead car, medical support and security services respectively.

The event, expected to attract over 25,000 participants this year, will be hosted by Nairobi County and the Uhuru Gardens National Monument and Museum.

The race will feature races over 42kms, 21kms, 10kms and the popular 5km Family run, as well as similar competitions for Persons with Disabilities.
