Safaricom has partnered with Britam to introduce a new data plan called “Data Plus”.

This plan offers daily personal accident cover in addition to data and free Google Maps for as little as KES 25 daily.

The Personal Accident cover includes medical expenses, permanent disability, and funeral expenses arising from an accident.

Evah Kimani, Britam’s Director of Partnerships and Digital, said, “Through this partnership, we aim

to reach out to millions of Kenyans who do not have access to insurance protection against various risks that can affect their livelihoods and well-being.”

The introduction of the ‘Data Plus’ Plan will see Safaricom customers enjoy a selection of four daily data bundles that are valid for 24 hours between KES 25 and KES 150.

For only KES 25 daily, a customer will enjoy a 100MB bundle with a daily insurance benefit of KES 15,000 for medical expenses, KES 50,000 for accidental permanent total disability, and KES 50,000 for funeral expenses in case of accidental death.

“Safaricom remains keen on bridging the digital divide, and we do this by availing affordable data bundles and 4G devices, which empower Kenyans to leverage our extensive network coverage and enjoy the transformative power of the internet,” said Fawzia Ali, Chief Consumer Business Officer, Safaricom PLC.

Customers can access the bundles and the personal accident cover via the Safaricom App or USSD *544# under option 9—Data Plus, select their preferred bundle, and pay via Airtime or M-PESA.

They will then receive a notification from Britam confirming the cover.

All valid claims will be processed within 5 working days upon receipt of all necessary documentation, with benefits disbursed to the mobile number linked to the bundle.

The Accidental Death benefit will be paid to the designated beneficiary.
