Afya Uzazi Salama will focus on women of reproductive age, newborns, children under five, adolescent girls and young women.

The Safaricom Foundation, in partnership with AMREF, has launched a three-year programme called Afya Uzazi Salama.

This initiative is aimed at strengthening Reproductive, Maternal, neonatal, Child and Adolescent health outcomes (RMNCAH), aligning with the foundation’s 2023-2026 health strategy.

The programme is set to impact 158,000 beneficiaries in its first year, with Safaricom Foundation committing KES 61 million and AMREF contributing KES 11.8 million.

The Chairman of Safaricom Foundation, Joseph Ogutu, emphasized their commitment to transforming lives through health, one of their strategic pillars.

“As Safaricom Foundation celebrates its 20-year-anniversary, we are keen to continue transforming lives, and health is one of our strategic pillars. By collaborating with the County Government of Narok and AMREF on Afya Uzazi Salama, we seek to improve maternal and child health outcomes in the county, especially in remote areas,” said Joseph Ogutu, Chairman, Safaricom Foundation.

Afya Uzazi Salama will focus on women of reproductive age, newborns, children under five, adolescent girls and young women. It aims to increase access and demand for health services, particularly in maternal and child health as well as non-communicable diseases.

The Governor of Narok County, His Excellency Patrick Ole Ntutu, pledged the county’s support for the programme by setting up policies and providing the necessary infrastructure and technical expertise.

Gilbert Wangalwa, Deputy Country Director of Amref Kenya, also expressed his organization’s commitment to strategic partnerships that improve health and well-being.

In addition to this initiative, Safaricom’s M-Pesa Foundation hosted a medical camp in Narok County in partnership with Zuri Health and Lions Eye Hospital.

Over 3,000 people accessed health services during this camp. Patients from the medical camp will also receive free follow-up consultations for up to six months via SMS and WhatsApp.
