Following the blackout incident at JKIA, the Cabinet Secretary for Transport, Kipchumba Murkomen, has made several changes in the management of the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA).
He has sacked the Managing Director Mr. Alex Gitari and the General Manager Project and Engineering Services of KAA Mr. Fred Odawo by mutual consent.
In their place, he has named new acting replacements for them.
Mr. Henry Ogoye currently serving as the Head of Corporate Planning has been appointed to be the Acting Managing Director of KAA.
On the other hand, Eng. Samuel Mwochache has been appointed General Manager Project and Engineering Services in an acting capacity.
He has also swapped the Airport Managers of JKIA, Mombasa International Airport, and Kisumu International Airport.
Abel Gogo (JKIA) moves to Mombasa International Airport. Selina Gor (Kisumu) moves to JKIA and Peter Wafula (Mombasa) moves to Kisumu International Airport.
He has instructed the Board of Kenya Airports Authority to activate two generators that were bought more than two years ago and to install solar power at all airports.
Murkomen has also demanded an audit of all airport facilities and equipment and a review of all contracts and agreements with service providers.
He has said that these changes are aimed at improving the performance and efficiency of KAA, and at restoring public confidence in the aviation sector.
