Faith Kipyegon made history by winning the women’s 5000m final at the 2023 World Athletics Championships, adding to her 1500m gold medal from earlier in the competition.
Faith ran 14:53.88 to become the first woman to achieve the 1500m and 5000m double.
She also secured Kenya’s second gold medal at the event.

“This has been an amazing year for me. Making history today, winning two gold medals in a championship is what I was dreaming for this season.
“I have been patient waiting to be able to break world records and win double golds. But my dream just came true, it is amazing. I have been pushing myself to the limits and I will continue to push myself in the future,” Kipyegon said

Sifan Hassan of the Netherlands, who took bronze in the 1500m, finished second in 14:54.11.
Kenya’s Beatrice Chebet, the World Cross Country champion, claimed bronze in 14:54.33, while her teammate Margaret Chelimo came fourth.
