The Menace and Lugari Progressive emerged as the champions of the Kakamega County Safaricom Chapa Dimba finals in the boys’ and girls’ categories respectively on Sunday at Kakamega High School Grounds.

In the girls’ final, Lugari Progressive dominated the game from the start and scored four goals in the first half to seal their victory over Kakamega Starlets.

The second half saw no change in the scoreline as Lugari Progressive maintained their lead and defended well.

In the boys’ final, Lugusi Boys took a 2-0 lead in the first half against The Menace, who struggled to break through their defence. However, The Menace fought back in the second half and scored two goals to level the match and force a penalty shootout.

The shootout was a tense affair as both teams showed nerves of steel and accuracy. The Menace prevailed with a 5-4 score, thanks to their goalkeeper who saved one of Lugusi Boys’ kicks.

Both The Menace and Lugari Progressive took home Ksh 75,000 cash Prize, with the runners-up Kakamega Starlets and Lugusi Boys taking home Ksh 30,000 each.

The top scorers and Best Goalkeepers each took home Ksh10,000 with the Most Valuable Players (Golden Ball) from both the boys’ and girls’ teams each receiving a similar amount and the TVET scholarships courtesy of the Safaricom and M-PESA Foundations.

The Menace and Lugari Progressive qualified for the Western region finals, where they will join Compel Sportif and Brenda Girls from Bungoma, Madira Girls and Ebwali Boys from Vihiga, and John Osogo and Chakol Queens from Busia.
