Kenyan women have been warned against using yoni pearls, a product that claims to detoxify the vagina and treat various health issues.
Yoni pearls, also known as vaginal detox pearls, herbal tampons, cleansing pearls, or vaginal pearls, are small mesh bags filled with herbs that are inserted into the vagina for up to 72 hours.
However, the Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB), a regulatory authority for the practice of pharmacy and the trade in drugs, poisons, and medical devices in Kenya, says “Yoni Pearls” is neither registered nor authorized for use in the country.
“Therefore, their usage poses potential public health risks as the PPB cannot guarantee their quality, safety, or efficacy.”
As a result, the PPB “strongly advises against the distribution, supply, sale or use of the product and any other unregistered products with similar claims.”

Medically, the vagina is a self-cleaning organ with a delicate balance of bacteria, and introducing foreign substances can disrupt this balance and potentially lead to irritation, infection, or other health issues.
