Six candidates have been shortlisted by the Public Service Commission to replace Dr Patrick Njoroge as the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) Governor.

Among the shortlisted are two former central bank deputies Haron Sirima and Edward Sambili.

The PSC says it will conduct interviews on May 9, 2023.

“Members of the public are invited to avail any credible information of interest relating to any of the shortlisted candidates (through sworn affidavits) to the Secretary/CEO, Public Service Commission…so as to be received on or before 8th May 2023.”

Who are the candidates? 

  • Dorcas Muthoni Mutonyi 
  • Haron Sirima
  • Edward Sambil
  • Nancy Onyango 
  • Adan Abdulla Mohamed
  • Kamau Thugge

Dr Nancy Onyango currently serves as the Director of the Office of Internal Audit and Inspection at the International Monetary Fund. She has more than 25 years of experience in internal audit, strategic risk management, corporate governance, and IT risk management.

Dr Haron Sirima is currently the Director-General of the Public Debt Management Office at the National Treasury and has previously served as the Deputy Central Bank Governor.

Edward Sambili has previously served as the Deputy Central Bank Governor and Planning Permanent Secretary.

Dr Kamau Thugge previously served as the Permanent Secretary of the Treasury and currently serves as a senior advisor and head of fiscal and budget policy in the Executive Office of the President.

Adan Abdulla Mohammed previously served as the Managing Director of Barclays Bank in East and West Africa. In 2013, he was appointed as the Cabinet Secretary for Industrialization of Kenya. He currently serves as Economic Advisor to the President.

Dr Njoroge, who has served for eight years, will leave office on June 17, 2023.  His successor will be the tenth governor at the CBK which was established by an Act of Parliament of March 24, 1966, and started operations on September 14, 1966.
