Adrian Mwangi overcame his closest challenger, Emmanuel Nyakaberia to clinch the opening leg of the KCB East Africa Golf Tour at the lush par-72 Vetlab golf course.

Adrian carded a score of 39 Stableford points to beat Nyakaberia played handicap 27 carding 36 points.

Nyakaberia was named the overall men winner, beating Eric Njunu who carded 35 points while Daniel Karuga (handicap 19) was a distant third having carded 34 points.

“I am happy with my win here today. KCB has done an incredible job kick-starting the tour here at Vetlab. As a member, we could not let this win slip through our fingers. I can say my swing was there and the fine weather also contributed to my success,” said Adrian.

In the lady’s category, Caroline Mokeria playing off handicap 45 carded 37 points to beat handicap 39 Grace Katumbi on countback.

Alice Adere settled for the 3rd position, carding 35 points.

All About The KCB East Africa Golf Tour

The inaugural KCB East Africa Golf Tour will traverse six countries and 12 counties in Kenya.

The 8-month-long series will comprise an 18-leg amateur series in Kenya with Tanzania and Uganda fielding two series each while the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) Rwanda and Burundi will host one tournament each.

The expansion into East African countries will allow regional golf enthusiasts to compete in tournaments. It will be open to professionals, amateurs and juniors.

KCB Bank Kenya has injected Kshs. 60 million into the tourney and has over the years spent over Kshs. 300 million on golf sponsorships in a bid to grow talent and provide an opportunity for golfers to compete locally and regionally.

The Kenya legs of the tournament will be played at Vetlab Sports Club, Eldoret Golf Club, Limuru Golf Club, Railway Golf Club, Kakamega Golf Club, Nyanza Golf Club, Thika Sports Club, Nyeri Golf Club, Nakuru Golf Club, Kericho Golf Club, Great Rift Valley Lodge, Kitale Golf Club, Machakos Golf Club, Sigona Golf Club, Nyali Golf Club, Nandi Bears Golf Club and Karen Country Club.

The winning golfers from each club will converge at the Karen Country and Golf Club for the grand finale in November 2023, where 200 golfers from 40 teams across East Africa will compete at the Pro-Am event.
