Talented Nigerian singer, Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, bagged her first Grammy award.
The singer won “Best Melodic Rap Performance” alongside American rappers Drake and Future for her work on the song “Wait for U”.

The track beat songs from other artists, including Jack Harlow (“First Class”), Kendrick Lamar (“Die Hard”), Latto (“Big Energy (Live)”), DJ Khaled (“Beautiful”).
The song was also nominated for the Best Rap Song award.
Tems now joins Sade Adu, the Nigerian-British singer, as the female artist who has taken home the Grammy.
Sade took home the Grammy Award in 1986 when she emerged as the Best New Artist award winner.
On the other hand, two-time Grammy winner Burna Boy lost the Grammys in the Best Global Music Album and the Best Global Music Performance categories to South Africans Wouter Kellerman, Zakes Bantwini & Nomcebo Zikode with ‘Bayethe’, and ‘Sakura’ by Masa Takumi respectively.
South African comedian Trevor Noah hosted the 2023 Grammy Awards ceremony at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
