The High Court of Kenya Thursday upheld the conviction of Sirisia MP John Waluke and his co-convict Grace Wakhungu in the Ksh 297million maize fraud case.
Justice Esther Maina said charges against the duo before trial Magistrate Elizabeth Juma were proved beyond any reasonable doubt.
“The sentences were not excessive. They are within the law. Conviction and sentences affirmed,” the judge said.
Waluke has been sentenced to 67 years in prison or pay a Ksh 1 billion fine for fraudulently obtaining more than Ksh 300 million from the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB).
Waluke is charged alongside Grace Wakhungu, a co-director with Waluke at Erad Supplies and General Contractors Ltd, the entity involved in the agreement.
The two have 14 days to appeal the sentence.
