MultiChoice subscribers have an exciting line-up of region-specific entertainment to look forward to. As Africa’s largest investor in developing local entertainment, broadcasting infrastructure, and talent, MultiChoice’s mission is to create regional content that speaks to the local audiences it has been made for.

The result is an impressive list of curated viewing options that tell the stories of the African continent and her people.

“The MultiChoice team is pleased to report that our local content investment has been going from strength to strength. We have flagship local channels in all MultiChoice markets that tell people’s local stories in their own languages, inspired by their unique contexts,” said Nancy Matimu, Managing Director at MultiChoice.

“We’re also in a great position where we can give even more value to our customers by making those channels available as part of more budget-friendly bouquets, giving all our customers access to premier local entertainment at affordable prices.”

Leaders in local entertainment

At its core, MultiChoice believes in putting its customers at the heart of everything it does by paying close attention to customers’ challenges, needs, and viewing preferences. That’s why it’s critical to deliver stories celebrating the African continent while also connecting with viewers personally.

The company’s strategy is to deliver content and viewing experiences that are tailor-made for various audiences as it recognises that its customers across the continent are different and want to watch different shows.

MultiChoice wants to support and grow the industry − including local actors, make-up artists, costume and set designers, caterers, location owners, and more – that’s why it prioritises investing in talented Africans to help them write, direct, and produce relevant content.

Giving customers more of what they want

On top of developing local content in nearly 50 countries, MultiChoice’s approach to growing African storytelling gave rise to local channels in over nine countries spanning Africa’s east, west and southern regions. And to keep up with its subscribers’ appetites for distinctly local content, MultiChoice has invested in expanding its offering to include channels in more accessible, affordable DStv and GOtv packages.

Eight new local channels have been established in Ethiopia, Uganda, Tanzania, Mozambique, Angola, and Ghana. By broadcasting in Amharic, Portuguese, Swahili, Twi, Bemba, and Nyanja, MultiChoice can connect with more of its customers in their native languages.

The next few months are brimming with the best in local entertainment. From gripping documentaries and head-scratching quiz shows to investigations into the lives of the rich and infamous, there are loads of highlights to look forward to across the regions MultiChoice serves.

Western Region

With a strong focus on Nigerian programming, series, and movies, Africa Magic is the industry leader in providing top-notch telenovelas, dramas, and reality shows with a unique local flavour and some of the biggest reality shows on the continent.

Subscribers can look forward to two new series coming to Africa Magic, The Covenant and Lahira. The Covenant follows three strangers on a journey that will not only turn their lives upside down but will also unite them for life. Lahira tells the story of a young girl’s fight for freedom after a group of armed men destroys her village.

Northern Region

As a prime example of a channel that delivers authentic content, Maisha Magic is set to delight viewers with a line-up that includes The Last Door, Kenya’s first local true-crime docu-series hosted by John-Allan Namu. Season 2 of Our 5th Anniversary will check in with the couples who said, “I do!” on Our Perfect Wedding Kenya to see how their relationships are faring.

Mzansi Magic, M-Net’s local offering to the South African market, delivers a no-holds-barred perspective on the Gqeberha-based ladies of leisure in the Real Housewives of Gqeberha. The controversial Bala brothers undergo a process of accepting each other’s journeys in The Bala Brothers.
