House of the Dragon premiered in Kenya on Monday, and according to HBO, it was the most watched premiere in its history.

“House of the Dragon” drew in 9.99 million viewers across HBO and HBO Max after premiering with one episode on Sunday, according to Warner Bros.

The Game of Thrones prequel is based on the Fire and Blood novel by George RR Martin, is set 300 years before the events of Game Of Thrones and follows the Targaryen family history, starting right at the formation of Westeros. 

The House of the Dragon revolves around three families: the Targaryens—King Viserys, his daughter Rhaenyra, and brother Daemon. The Hightowers, with Otto and his daughter Alicent Hightower. The third, Velaryons, with Corlys, his wife Rhaenys and their kids Laena and Laenor.

In Kenya, three hundred DStv fans of HBO’s popular Game of Thrones series were treated to a private invite-only screening of the premier episode of the House of Dragons sequel at Westgate Cinemas in Nairobi on the night of Monday 22, 2022, following the global premier of the series.

Leading cast members include Paddy Considine, Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, Fabien Frankel, Sonoya Mizuno and Rhys Ifans.

Martin co-created the series with Ryan Condal, who serves as co-showrunner with director Miguel Sapochnik. Martin, Condal and Sapochnik all executive produce alongside Sara Hess, Jocelyn Diaz, Vince Gerardis and Ron Schmidt.
