Almost 22 million Kenyan citizens will cast votes in the 2022 race for the State House, with voter turnout set to be high for presidential elections on Tuesday.

The electorate, through the ballot, will decide between Azimio’s Raila Odinga, Kenya Kwanza’s William Ruto, the Roots Party’s Prof. George Wajackoyah and their Agano Party counterpart, David Mwaure, to be their fifth president.

On the other hand, the electorate will elect 404 parliamentarians, including 290 National Assembly members, 47 out of 67 senators (the rest nominated by parties) and 47 county women representatives.

In addition, those elected will be occupants of 1,497 offices in 47 devolved units, including 47 governors and 1,450 members of county assemblies.

Kenya Elections 2022: The Stakes and Hope For Peace

Mombasa, Kakamega Gubernatorial Positions Suspended

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Monday suspended elections in four elective seats across the country following a mix-up in the printing of ballot papers.

The affected regions include Mombasa and Kakamega counties, where governor elections have been suspended until further notice.

The Pokot South and Kacheliba constituency elections are also affected for the same reason.

“Ballot papers for Mombasa governor position have wrong gubernatorial candidates’ pictures and their images printed on them,” Wafula Chebukati, IEBC chair, said.

“Ballot papers for Kacheliba constituency have the wrong member of National Assembly candidates’ pictures and their images printed on them,” he added.

“As a result, elections for the respective positions have been suspended to a later date that shall be announced to a later date through a gazette notice,” Chebukati stated.
