Online accommodation platform Airbnb has permanently banned parties at homes listed on the site for short-term rentals.

Since its temporal ban in 2021, it says parties at listed properties have dropped 44 per cent stating that the move “proved effective”.

While making the ban permanent, Airbnb said it will lift a limit of 16 people at rented properties. It said the cap was prompted by health concerns before vaccines against COVID-19 were available.

“The policy will continue to include serious consequences for guests who attempt to violate these rules, varying from account suspension to full removal from the platform. In 2021, over 6,600 guests were suspended from Airbnb for attempting to violate our party ban,” Airbnb said in a statement.

“This new and long-term policy was enacted to help encourage and support community safety,” Airbnb said.

“We look forward to sharing updates in the coming weeks and months on our efforts to complement our community policies on parties,” it added.
